Our most recent home, being a Touchstone Energy Home, had to meet certain criteria to qualify. This home is required to be very well insulated and sealed to surpass normal building standards; a normal, newly constructed home is rated as a 100. A Touchstone Energy Home has to have a rating of 85 or lower. Every one number reduction represents 1% better in energy efficiency in heating and cooling. A rating of 50 means it takes half the energy to heat and cool the home, resulting in a lower cost of utilities. Cornerstone Energy actually does a blower door test showing exactly how much air infiltration exists. By using the ratings of the blower door test and specifications from the materials used in construction, Cornerstone gives the efficiency rating of the home. Our latest home scored a 53, which means it is 47% more energy efficient to heat and cool than a new home built to code. Needless to say, we are very pleased to have a true number rating that rewards our clients and shows how worth while the extra work we do is.
